Why God allowed to a person to be beaten by bandits?
Is this person's sins has caused him to be beaten?. If yes, why we should help him? If It is his own fault!.
Christian teaching about reason for suffering is not only his sins, but when God wanted to change your life, he will do it,as against your wish!(Basic principle of christianity is that you agree to surrender your will to God's will). Suffering cannot be identified as caused by only by your sin. So only God knows why you suffer! That is why Mother Theresa of Calcutta treat suffering is analogus to personally kissed and embraced by the crucified lord. He holds us so close and so tide: we can feel the nails and throns in our own body.
Your sin will cause you to increase unhappiness in your life, which may caused one side of suffering.
Suffering is when, you experience, unhappiness in your life. Every human likes to lead a life, according to his wish. But the outcome he expect will not come as he expected causing suffering.
All religions in the world says, Sin will cause suffering in your life. Sin means, when you against to your agreed behaviour of your life. For example for catholics when you go against 10 commandments and not avoiding 7 vices, is sin.
But God, has provide you, a remedy for outcome of your sin. Remedy means how to erase the effect of sin?. When you sin, it will cause you guilt, as well you are liable for punishment for your wrong action.
Process of removing guilt is to real REPENTANCE OF YOUR SIN + CONFESSION THAT SIN WITH A PRIEST. Then you are in grace with God and can receive Holy Eucharist. After this within 2 weeks, you can carry out any merciful action to reduce the effects of sin, that is punishment. Merciful actions, you can carry out by yourself, there are 7 spiritual and 7 corporal actions, defined by church. This is one side of suffering story!.
Will that mean, for all bad actions or unexpected experience, are your sins responsible?. No, suffering can be God wanted you to experience, certain action, for you to get closer to HIM. For that kind of actions, HE will give you more courage to bear the suffering.

Since out comes of all your actions are decided by God, when you train to surrender your will to God's will, it will allow you to avoid suffering or get courage to face suffering.
Normally suffering of yours, lead to develop patience in you, when you face suffering with Perseverance , without loosing Hope with God, you are sure to get happiness, either in this world or life after death, eternally.

Remind us:
(1)You are in 1family with God as Father, hence you have to treat your neighbor who is in trouble
2)why you have to support him,if it happened due to his own sins?
You believe,suffering is not only due to your sin,but may be God is introducing change in to your life,hence you cannot differentiate the actual cause
(3)Your life swing from Getsamani to Golgotha,in managing,mental &physical suffering
(4)by setting 3persons(priest,layman & non catholic) to show who is U'r neighbour,Jesus show ungreatfulness of christians(others does not hv1family concept)
(5)Christians firmly believe in redemptive suffering, whereby U'r willingly offers,U'r suffering with Christ on cross.
Certain people believe, karma has caused you to suffer. Karma is mainly coming from previous births. Only thing is that you don't know what is the sin,you committed, and in which birth!. Hence Repentance for your sin becomes complex.
In christianity, suffering is attributed mainly Due to Your own sin (this can be either in this world or in purgatory) or God wanted to change your plan to His. Most of the time,you might feel, it is innocent who suffer, and guilty sinners seen to escape pain and misery.
So, answer to who is responsible for suffering is complicated and will be either your own sins or God wanted to change your direction of life. That is why,instead of seeing suffering as punishment, catholics see suffering in different way.
.If Suffering has caused people to abandon their faith, their righteousness is worth little. According to the book of Job,genuine faith weathers even the most difficult of storms. As Job says" Even if HE should kill me, I still will trust HIM"(job 13:15)
In conclusion, when you want to suport another person, you should be healthy/strong enough to support him. First you should know what is suffering and how you manage suffering your self. Once you are trained to manga you can help others!
